Essentialis – AI Stylist and Wardrobe Planner App
Table of Contents
Essentialis is a mobile AI stylist app that helps users organize their clothes, generate outfits, plan looks for upcoming days, and track how effectively they use their wardrobe.
Our team worked on the product as a full-cycle development partner, covering product logic, UI/UX design, AI-assisted wardrobe management, outfit planning, calendar functionality, analytics, and subscription features.
The Background
Many wardrobe apps work mainly as digital clothing catalogs. Users upload photos, sort their items, and still have to decide manually what to wear.
Essentialis was designed as more than a closet organizer app. It combines wardrobe management with AI-powered styling, helping users make faster outfit decisions and use more of the clothes they already own.
Users can add clothing by taking or uploading a photo. AI removes the background and suggests the item’s category, color, fabric, and suitable season. Each item can then be edited and tagged by occasion, fit, and care requirements.
The app supports categories such as tops, bottoms, dresses, outerwear, footwear, bags, and accessories. Users can also mark items for work, casual days, parties, sports, formal events, dates, travel, home, beach, or gala occasions.
This structured wardrobe data improves both search and outfit generation. Users can quickly filter their closet by color and see how many items match each option.
Build an AI-Powered Fashion App
Planning an AI stylist, digital wardrobe, or outfit recommendation product?
The Goal
Technical App Overview
The main goal was to build an outfit planner app that becomes useful as soon as users begin adding clothes.
AI-Assisted Clothing Upload
Adding a large wardrobe manually can take time, so Essentialis automates the most repetitive parts of the process.
After an image is uploaded, AI removes the background, isolates the clothing item, and suggests its main attributes. Users can review the results, correct them, add notes, and save the item to their wardrobe.
This keeps the upload process fast while allowing users to control the final data.
Daily Outfit Recommendations
The home screen combines local weather information with a daily “AI Stylist Pick.”
Each recommendation includes an outfit title, a short styling explanation, and a preview of the selected look. Users can open the complete outfit, refresh the recommendation, or mark it as worn.
Weather information is used as part of the styling context, helping the app recommend suitable layers, fabrics, and combinations.
Outfit Generation by Occasion
The “Generate outfit” feature creates a complete look from the user’s existing clothes.
Users can also request recommendations for a specific situation, including a work meeting, casual day, date night, gym session, travel, or formal event. The system uses wardrobe data such as category, color, season, fit, and occasion to select relevant combinations.
Weekly Outfit Planning
The “Plan my week” feature allows users to choose an occasion for each weekday and generate all five outfits at once.
Each daily plan includes a title, a short description, and the clothing items selected for that look. Users can save one outfit separately or add the full weekly plan to their wardrobe.
This feature reduces repeated morning decisions and helps users prepare for different activities in advance.
Calendar Integration
Generated outfits can be linked to specific dates and viewed in a monthly calendar.
Users can review upcoming looks, add outfits manually, and keep their wardrobe plan connected to real events. The calendar also shows monthly activity, including how many outfits were logged, how much of the wardrobe was used, and how many items appeared in planned looks.
AI Wardrobe Insights
The AI Insights section analyzes how the wardrobe is being used.
It can highlight items that have not been worn, show which colors dominate the closet, identify underused categories, and suggest matching looks. The app can also point out potential wardrobe gaps without encouraging unnecessary purchases.
This makes Essentialis useful not only for choosing outfits, but also for understanding existing clothing habits.
Premium Subscription
Free users receive a limited number of AI generations each month. The remaining allowance is displayed directly in the interface, for example, “5 of 5 left this month.”
A premium subscription provides extended access to outfit generation and planning features, creating a clear monetization model around the product’s main AI functionality.
The Development Team
UI/UX Designer
The designer created a clean fashion-focused interface with simple navigation between Home, Closet, Stylist, Calendar, and Profile. The main challenge was to keep detailed wardrobe data, outfit descriptions, insights, and planning tools easy to understand without making the app feel overloaded.
Solution Architect
The solution architect divided the product into separate modules for wardrobe storage, AI recommendations, weekly planning, calendar scheduling, analytics, and subscriptions. This structure made it easier to expand individual areas without affecting the full application.
Mobile and Back-End Developers
The development team implemented clothing uploads, item editing, wardrobe filters, outfit generation, occasion-based styling, weekly planning, calendar views, saved outfits, usage statistics, and premium access states. Back-end and AI work covered wardrobe data processing, recommendation requests, generated outfit storage, monthly usage tracking, and AI limits.
QA Specialist
The QA specialist tested image uploads, background removal, tagging, filters, outfit generation, calendar behavior, saved plans, statistics, and free-versus-premium scenarios.
Project Manager
The project manager coordinated design, development, testing, feature priorities, and delivery across the product’s main modules.
Have an AI App Idea?
A practical AI product requires structured data, clear user control, reliable recommendation logic, and a realistic monetization model.
The Results
Essentialis was developed as an AI-powered fashion app that connects wardrobe organization with everyday styling decisions.
Users can digitize their clothes, search the wardrobe, receive weather-aware recommendations, generate outfits for different occasions, plan an entire working week, assign looks to calendar dates, and track wardrobe usage.
The product goes beyond standard wardrobe app development by turning a digital closet into an active planning tool.
For users, Essentialis reduces the time spent choosing outfits and helps them make better use of clothes they already own. For the product owner, the monthly AI allowance and premium subscription create a monetization model directly connected to the app’s main value.
