Avtolider Logistics Platform: Route Planning & Warehouse Automation

Table of Contents

We provided technical partnership to Avtolider in building a custom logistics platform - a long-term client we have been working with since 2021, for whom we had previously built an auto parts website and integrated B2B portal. This new product was the next item to add to their digital ecosystem with a focus on route planning, shipment handling, warehouse workflows and driver operations.

The client arrived with a design but our team needed to implement this into a working end product with complex business logic, integrations and multi-role workflows. The platform needed to account for parcels, pallets and oversized orders, and exchange on data with Avtolider’s internal systems and B2B ordering flow.

Thus, instead of a logistics dashboard, Avtolider received a connection operating platform that relies on the integration of ordering works with warehouse processes, route planning and delivery execution within one system.

The background

Logistics Platform Overview

With Avtolider’s B2B platform launched, logistics was the next challenge. The company required a system that could compute actual delivery options, back internal teams and link directly to the ordering process. Merchants ordering via the B2B portal require valid delivery dates and routes; internal teams require tools to plan, scan, handle shipments and execute trips.

A separate route calculation script - essentially the engine of the platform - was a vital piece of the solution. It analyzed delivery scenarios, potential route combinations and weaknesses before changes made their way into production. This rationale was particularly useful in route comparison, as the potential scenarios could be run up against each other and planners would have a sense of where delays, mismatches or operational risk might emerge beforehand.

The project followed an iterative product development cycle, spanning multiple delivery periods and progressing from database design and environment setup to maps and zones, mixed routes, warehouse scanning, driver journey sheets, route comparison and optimization against near-real operational cases. As a result, that process helped the team orient the product around real workflows rather than treating logistics as a back-office admin module.

The Goal

Technical Platform Overview

We focused on several core areas to achieve this:

  • Route and zone management for logisticians, connecting multiple routes straight off the bat, mixed routes, and side-by-side route comparison.
  • Shipment preparation with scanning and printing label via Electron terminal mode for warehouse flows.
  • Driver tools for schedules, when your ride starts and ends, when you load and unload, returns, payment tracking.
  • Integrations between the logistics and B2B ordering systems and Avtolider’s internal systems.

The platform also needed to handle real operational complexity in the background. As routes, schedules, warehouses, drivers, vehicles and zones were inter-dependent on each other so the system had to have a very strict form of dependency logic to disallow any invalid actions by maintaining flexibility in super admin use cases. In addition, customer and order data needed to be kept in sync with Avtolider’s primary systems so that route options and addresses or shipment status between the two sides of the ledger were correct throughout the ecosystem.

Usability in live operation was another key piece of the product. Warehouse staff could interact through Electron with scanners and direct printing, drivers could change used vehicles before a trip was started and certain actions happening in the warehouse were tailored for real-time visibility since several different users could be interacting with one vehicle at the same time during loading.

Challenges

One of the biggest challenges was how to turn logistics systems into software, while still capturing what happens in real life operations. It wasn’t just about mapping routes - that system had to be an accurate representation of how deliveries functionally worked across warehouses, schedules, vehicles, drivers, zones and types of shipments.

The other big challenge was striking the right balance between flexibility and control. The platform had to accommodate changes in routes, cloned routes, schedule updates, special working days and exceptions, as well as providing role-based actions, whilst at the same time protecting itself from invalid dependencies / broken operational chains.

The integration layer further complicated the scenario. Delivery options also needed to be surfaced in the B2B ordering flow right when they actually made sense, customer data had to stay synchronized with already existing Avtolider systems, and shipping statuses needed to flow accordingly order confirmation to packing, loading, unloading, and final delivery.

The Development Team

The success of this project required close collaboration between several specialists:

The interfaces for logisticians, warehouse staff and drivers were implemented by frontend developers.

Backend engineers managed route computations, shipment states, schedules, modifications and synchronization logic.

QA specialists authenticated functional conditions throughout various user roles and workflows.

Requirements, priorities and delivery across all modules were coordinated by project management.

Discuss Your Project

Business Value

It was more than process automation: The platform drew a clearer line across multiple sections of Avtolider’s operations. So, delivery planning, warehouse handling, and route execution are agnostic to one another reducing disconnected coordination between teams.

It also enhanced the customer-facing aspect of the business. By folding logistics logic natively within the B2B flow, the company was able to display more accurate delivery options at the time of order rather than relying on disconnected manual processes post-order.

Equally important, the system was built to grow. Through configurable rules, embedded data exchange and role-based workflows, Avtolider acquired a logistics environment that could mature along with its internal processes rather than becoming just another siloed tool.

The Results

Operational Platform Overview

The outcome was a customized logistics platform that tied route planning, B2B ordering, warehouse execution and trip-management together into a single workflow. Logisticians were given the means to plan and compare the routes before implementing real-time changes. Warehouse teams can work faster with a scanner-based workflow using Electron terminal mode. The system enabled drivers to manage trips, update shipment statuses and complete delivery cycles. At the same time, B2B customers could view legitimate delivery alternatives at checkout as per real logistics data.

Another important result was flexibility. It facilitated route-specific and global working days, transitions between shipment status, QR-based authorization, notification flows and coordinated exchange of data with existing Avtolider systems. Rather than going the route of disparate tools and manual coordination, they were given a structured logistics environment that could grow with their operations.

A logical continuation of our long-term partnership with Avtolider, this project brought their digital transformation out of commerce and into the actual delivery operation - where planning, warehouse handling, and last-mile execution all had to perform as a single system.
